June 24 – About 30,000 agri-businesses, 200 agricultural cooperatives, 4,000 craft companies, and 4,200 agro-industrial enterprises make up Piedmont’s agri-food system. In 2013, their total turnover amounted to approximately €12 billion, 10% of the national total. Exports amounted to €4.6 billion, accounting for 14% of national exports in the sector and 11% of regional exports. Piedmont needs to maintain and strengthen its position on international markets, starting from the United States. This is why 9 companies from the provinces of Biella, Cuneo, Novara and Turin are flying to New York to attend Summer Fancy Food, the leading trade fair for the food market in the U.S. and North America. Last year, the event registered the presence of 2,300 exhibitors from 80 countries and almost 26,000 visitors. This year, it is scheduled for June 29-July 1. Summer Fancy Food is the ideal showcase to strengthen the image of the “Italian basket” in the US, as it will allow businesses to consolidate their position and gain new business contacts. Seven companies from the Piedmont collective are already present on the U.S. market and will thus try to strengthen their presence in the region.
