(Jul. 18) A Brazilian doctor – specialist in allergy – passionate about the history of the doctor from Pavia that in the mid-16th century spread the cure for asthma. So it was born “Cardano. Ascenção, tragédia and glória na Renascença Italian” a fictionalized biography of Girolamo Cardano: mathematician, physician, astrologer, writer and philosopher – a versatile figure of the Italian Renaissance – written by Raul Emerich. After an intense research activity, the author has brought to light the history of one of the greatest protagonists of the 16th century. Who has not heard of the universal joint? Who does not know the line “To be or not to be?” by William Shakespeare? And then the Inquisition, the divided Italy, the Renaissance, wars, medicine: all this is related to the Lombard physician and emerges again in the work of Emerich, renowned in the Brazilian scientific community for his publications. And now Cardano lives again in Sao Paulo, in an event organized by the Italian Cultural Institute of the city. At the IIC, in fact, Visitors will have the chance to make a dive in the Italian Renaissance on July 31, at 7 pm, when in the hall of the Institute (Av Higienópolis 436) it will be held Emerich’s conference entitled “Cardano e Leonardo da Vinci. Un’immersione nel Rinascimento.” The Brazilian physician and writer – as stated on the website of the IIC – during the course of his speech, will retrace the life of the scientist, in a period that was real turning point in the history of Europe and the world.
