Aden – The Doria ship is currently taking part in the anti-piracy operation Atalanta, and it carried out today its first friendly approach activities on a sambuq, a boat usually used for freight.
During the course of its surveillance and shipping protection, within the Internationally Recommended Traffic Corridor, the Navy destroyer intercepted the sambuq and, after establishing contact with their commander, approached the boat. The purpose was to rule out any piracy activity, and raise awareness of the work carried out by vessels included in the operation Atalanta, operating in support of merchant shipping and local traffic. These activities are part of the daily tasks assigned to the Task Force 465 unit, of which Doria is part under the command of Captain Gianfranco Annunziata. (9Colonne)
