(Aug. 20) – The green light from the European Commission has arrived for one of Italy’s delicacies. The application for the registration of protected designation of origin has been approved for the “Torrone di Bagnara” (PGI), a crisp and crunchy nougat produced in Bagnara, in the province of Reggio Calabria. Along with the Italian product, the same recognition was granted to the Spanish “Jamón de Serón” (IGP), ham from pig breeds selected for their large size, matured for over 16 months, according to a process of natural drying-ripening. The Commission’s decision will be published shortly in the Official Journal of the European Union. Both new products join the over 1,200 products already protected, the list of which is available in the Door database.
