Aug. 21 – Italian cinema crosses the Atlantic ocean to arrive in Canada. The Italian selection for the Venice Film Festival will be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (September 4-14). “Il giovane favoloso” by Mario Martone and “Anime nere” by Francesco Munzi will be screened in the Contemporary World Cinema category, while “Hungry Hearts” by Saverio Costanzo will have its American premiere in the Special Presentations section. It’s the first time that the Italian films competing in Venice take part in the same North American festival all together. “Senza nessuna pietà” by Michele Alhaique, competing in the Horizons section in Venice, is also taking part in the Toronto International Film Festival, in the Discovery category. Within the new section dedicated to international short films, there will also be “Persefone” by Grazia Tricarico, her essay in the Directing Course at the Experimental Centre of Cinematography. Another short film was selected, “San Siro” by Yuri Ancarani, to take part in the Wavelenghts category, the meeting point between documentary, film, and video art.
