Aug. 28 – Mission accomplished: Eni successfully drilled its first horizontal exploration well (Stallings 1H) under the agreement with Quicksilver Resources, which sought for the two companies to jointly evaluate, explore and develop unconventional oil resources in the southern part of the Delaware basin, in the Pecos County in West Texas, about 700 miles northwest of Houston. A statement from the group confirms that “the well was drilled to a vertical depth of 2,250 meters and then completed on a horizontal section of 900 meters. It is currently producing 750 barrels of oil equivalent per day, 90% of which is oil. The Stallings 1H production rate is on the high side of those recorded in this sector of the Delaware Basin and it represents a promising start of the activity that Eni is undertaking in the unconventional oil plays in the US.” Production from the well will begin in September. The joint venture between Eni and Quicksilver is currently drilling their second exploration well, Mitchell 1H, located approximately 7 kilometers north of the Stallings 1H, and targeting the same reservoir. The exploratory agreement concerns an area of about 210 square kilometers in the Pecos County. Quicksilver (operator) and Eni each hold 50% of working interest in the project, thus contributing to the know-how and skilled application of proprietary technologies to support the operator.
