Sept. 4 – The University of Siena is becoming increasingly international, especially in its vocation for culture. The Tuscan university was selected as leader of an upcoming EU-funded project, part of the Creative Europe program. “Playing Identities, Performing Heritage – Theatre, Creolisation, Creation and the Commons” is one of the four winning projects throughout Europe. Sponsored by the Department of Archaeology, History, and Cultural Heritage, in collaboration with the Department of Social, Political, And Cognitive Sciences (DISPOC), the project involves professors Marzia Pieri, Laura Caretti, and Tarciso Lancioni. Group leader Gianni Beradino, expert in project design within the social sciences, will work with the group of researchers and practitioners of the University of Siena: Stefano Jacoviello, Giancarlo Pichillo, Angelo Romagnoli, Tommaso Sbriccoli, Massimiliano Coviello, Alberto Balistreri, and Michele Campanini. The project also brings together five partner institutions: the Academy of Music and Theatre in Vilnius, the Babes Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, the Theatre Institute of Barcelona, the Central School of Speech and Drama in Londonm and the University of Kent in Canterbury. “We are particularly pleased with the success of our project – said Berardino – both for the recognition of its value and because it is the result of a cultural process that saw Siena strongly committed to the Siena European Capital of Culture 2019 project.”
