(Oct. 10) “In the Sixties Libya was changing its skin. Modernity and tradition were measuring themselves. A world was changing and I had the privilege to witness it: every day I had something new to think about. I learned to look at the reality in which I was moving without judging it. I learned a lot from different people.” These are the words of Antonino Di Vita, Sicilian archaeologist and professor at the University of Macerata, of which he has also been rector. Author of about 380 scientific articles and studies in relation to all the fields of Greek, Roman and Phoenician archeology and history, he is a winner of many national and international awards. The Professor passed away three years ago in Rome on October 22 but he still lives in a movie that will be premiering in Rovereto. It is titled “Storie dalla sabbia. La Libia di Antonino Di Vita” and has been produced by the University of Macerata and Fine Art Produzioni. The film is directed by Sicilian Lorenzo Daniele and will be screened today at the XXV International Festival of Archaeological Film, in progress this week. The work was, in fact, chosen from hundreds of films from all over the world. It recounts Libya of yesterday and today, filtered through the memories of one of the greatest protagonists of Mediterranean archeology. Daniele – from 2011 professor in the Laboratory of Archaeological Film Festival at the Specialization School in Archaeological Heritage of the University of Catania – offers an original and deep profile of Di Vita, considered one of the most meritorious scholars of the Italian culture.
