Dec. 5 – A 35-day trip to the United States, 10,100 km on the road, 25 states crossed – from East to West Coast, 105 third- and fourth-generation Italian-American from 19 Italian regions, 60 hours of video material, and more than 8,000 photographs. This is the journey behind Paolo Battaglia’s “Italian American Country”, a piece of which will be presented on Sunday, December 7 at Sant’Anna Pelago, in the province of Modena. The goal of the American tour was to get in touch with an important part of our country: those who emigrated to the US and their grandchildren, long forgotten by Italy. The documentarists met American citizens of Italian origin who live in small communities scattered throughout the country, asking them to share their memories. Through their words, food, photographs, and family traditions we discover just how much of Italy has permeated these communities. The adventure will be turned into a photo book and a documentary to be released in 2015; together, they will account for all aspects of travel and every single story of the people and the places visited.
