Dec. 8 – The University of Brescia is becoming increasingly international, bringing home a new and important award thanks to Ivano Alessandri, a young researcher in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. Alessandri is last year’s winner of the NEST Prize for research in Nano-sciences (National Enterprise for nanoScience and nanotechnology). Nest is an interdisciplinary research and training center that welcomes physicists, chemists and biologists. The award recognizes and promotes the research of young scientists in the field of nano-science by evaluating the best scientific work of the last two years; the prize is assigned by an evaluation committee made up by NEST Directors and / or coordinators. Alessandri was honored for his work on “Enhancing Raman scattering without plasmons: unprecedented sensitivity Achieved by TiO2 shell-based resonators” published last year in the Journal of the American Chemical Society. The scientific journal has existed since 1879, thanks to the American Chemical Society. The Nest, instead, includes three different institutions: the Scuola Normale Superiore, the Italian Institute of Technology and the National Research Council. Alessandri – who is part of the Chem4Tech Laboratory – was also recently mentioned as the author of a “hot paper” by the portal nanotechweb.org of the Institute of Physics in London. (red)
