Dec. 18 – During the first edition of FestAmbiente Mediterraneo, from tomorrow until Sunday, Palermo hosts the Italo-Maltese ViEnergy project, which aims to achieve vineyard production efficiency according to eco-compatibility criteria, leveraging new forms of alternative energy, such as the use of waste materials in the pruning and marc processes. The project sees the cooperation of Sicilian and Maltese public and private companies and is co-funded by the European Union under the Italy-Malta 2007 – 2013 Operational Programme in support of joint interventions for the prevention of natural and anthropic risks. The project aims to strengthen the cross-border attractiveness and competitiveness of the Mediterranean, putting into practice, within the wine industry, a range of actions that respect environmental sustainability. ViEnergy – Vigna Energetica involves the Regional Institute of wine and oil as leader, Corissia (Research Consortium for the development of innovative food), the Studies Center of Economics of the University of Catania, Abe Alternative Bioenergy of Marsala, and, on Malta’s side, the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainability and Climate Change, and the University of Malta.
