Dec. 24 – Emma Dante, one of the most interesting and controversial Italian directors, will be featured at the Festival Internacional de Teatro Santiago a Mil, to be held January 3-18. The event is organized by the Fundación Teatro a Mil in collaboration with the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Santiago. For the occasion, the Italian artist will stage a “matriarchal history” of a family of seven women, “the Macaluso Sisters,” at the Teatro Matucana January 8-10 at 8pm. The family of “The Macaluso Sisters” consists of seven sisters, all females: Gina, Cetty, Maria, Katia, Lia, Pinuccia and Antonella, who died a few years earlier. After the funeral, the sisters stop to remember, reminisce, accuse, dream, cry and laugh of their past. The line between life and death becomes thinner, as one of the sisters disappears forever beyond the line on the floor that marks the fickleness of life compared to the eternity of death. The universe Emma Dante brings on stage is one in which life and death are inextricably mixed up and it is not surprising if, those who died, sit next to us and lead us by the hand.
