San Francisco – How is it that the Tower of Pisa is still standing? This and other curiosities will be answered by Michele Jamiolkowski and Carlo Viggiani, two leading experts in the restoration of the Tower, during the January 22 conference held at the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco. The conference, organized by the Consulate General of Italy of the City, the City of Pisa, the Chamber of Commerce of Pisa and Toscana Promozione, will take palce at the headquarters of the IIC at 6:30pm, and will address issues related to the history of the structure, recent initiatives and engineering works to stabilize the tower. San Francisco’s Westfield Mall, from January 10 to February 10, also hosts an exhibition inside which will be displayed a scale model in handcrafted alabaster by the artisans of Volterra of the Tower.
