Jan. 27 – A series of events commemorate the International Holocause Remebrance Day. The Italian Embassy in Washington and the network of Consulates and Italian Cultural Institutes in the US will commemorate the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp with meetings, conferences, film screenings in DC, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Tampa and many other cities. The Italian Embassy in Washington will organize two events. Today, they will screen the documentary film “L’Isola delle Rose”, on the history of the Jewish community in Rhodes during the Second World War. The film will be preceded by a conversation with Holocaust survivor Cesare Frustaci. On 2 February, the Embassy will celebrate instead the sixtieth anniversary of the Foundation Center of Contemporary Jewish Documentation in Milan with the screening of an extraordinary, recently restored film of the Della Seta family, a rare video on the life of Italian Jews before the Holocaust.
