Jan. 27 – Eni signed onto the integrated oil and gas OCTP project in Ghana with Vitol and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, and Oil Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah. The first oil is expected to flow in 2017, the first gas in 2018 and the peak of production, expected for 2019, will be 80,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. “OCTP – explains the CEO of Eni, Claudio Descalzi – is a strong integrated oil and gas project that will provide the energy required to accelerate Ghana’s economic growth through an internal solution that will feed the energy sector. The launch of this important project comes less than two years later the completion of a successful exploration campaign. Once again, in line with Eni’s best tradition, we will offer organic growth in a ‘fast track’ mode, tackling energy sustainably instances of the host country, in perfect alignment with Eni’s model in Africa.” Eni, through its subsidiary Eni Ghana, is OCTP operator with a 47.22% share. Other partners include Vitol, with 37,77%, and the GNPC with 15%. Eni has been present in Ghana since 2009: in the country it launched initiatives such as the health program of the western region, for the benefit of a population of more than 300.000 people. Eni has been present in Sub-Saharan Africa since the 1960s with exploration and production projects in Angola, Congo, Ghana, Gabon, Mozambique, Nigeria, Kenya, Liberia and South Africa. Its successful exploratorations and rapidly growing group in the region currently produce about 450,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
