Feb. 9 – The Fondazione Teatro San Carlo in Naples is bringing Verdi’s “I Masnadieri” to Buenos Aires: the event is scheduled for March 4 at 6:30pm, at the headquarters of the Italian Cultural Institute of the city. The show – with surtitles in Spanish – sees Gabriele Lavia direct, and Nicola Luisotti as orchestra conductor. “Composed on the libretto by Andrea Maffei – reads a statement by the Institute – the Opera is among the lesser known and less performed works by Giuseppe Verdi. The story sees two brothers, Carlo and Francesco, the children of a father who does not understand their aspirations, take a rebellious path that pushes them beyond the boundaries of the law, where they will have to face the failure of their ideals. Inspired by a Schiller play, this is a complex work of extraordinary relevance.”
