Edinburgh – The horse is a cunning animal that understands and follows indications only when they suit it. This is the conclusion reached by a group of researchers from the Department of Veterinary Science at the University of Pisa. Their study shows for the first time that horses, contrary to what had been previously documented in scientific literature, have both evolved cognitive abilities and short-term memory. The results of the research, carried out by Paolo Baragli and Claudio Sighieri in collaboration with Paola Lovrovich from the Horse Protection Association, were published in the latest issue of the international journal “Applied Animal Behaviour Science”, the official organ of the International Society for Applied Ethology (ISAE).
