May 20 – “It’s a very prestigious Festival. I noticed it the first time I got an award for Caro Diaro,” recently joked Nanni Moretti in an interview to Francesco Castelnuovo on his participation in the International Film Festival of Cannes. “Mia Madre” – his latest movie – is in competition for the Palme d’Or in the 68th edition of the festival, where he was greeted by more than ten minutes of applause. And today, as Mia Madre is praised by critics and audiences around the world (the Financial Times spoke of the film as “worthy of the Palme d’Or”), there are those who decide to pay tribute to the Italian director overseas, proposing the screening of his “Caro Diario.” The 1993 film – written, directed and starring Nanni Moretti – won the award for best director at the Cannes Film Festival of 1994. The Italian Institute of Culture initiative in Sao Paulo takes place tonight, at 7pm, at the hall of the Institute (Av. Higienópolis, 436). The appointment is part of the series of meetings dedicated to Italian cinema and, in particular, to Italian cinema and architecture. “How nice it would be to make a film made only of houses,” said Moretti in the first episode of “Caro Diario.” In the film, the director walks around neighborhoods and buildings. Before the screening, Oscar L. Marzorati will present the film.
