June 11 – About 200 international missions in 20 countries, more than 30,000 admissions, and 8,000 performed surgeries. Not to count the training of health personnel, the export of new clinical and surgical protocols, the implementation of ad hoc structures to reach and treat the largest number of children suffering from serious diseases. This is a photograph of the Children’s Hospital Bambin Gesù’s international activity of recent years, whose doctors and nurses are present in four continents, providing pediatric care and assistance to needy people and equipping local health workers with the necessary skills to continue to work independently. The international projects and future prospects of the Bambin Gesù are the focus of the conference entitled “The globalization of solidarity. Reaching children in need. ” The first event takes place this afternoon at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, in the Vatican City. The second round is tomorrow, June 12, at the headquarters of the Janiculum Hospital Bambin Gesù (Aula Salviati, from 9am to 4:30pm, in Piazza S. Onofrio, 4 – Rome). The protagonists of the health cooperation are all present: pediatric doctors and nurses engaged in the missions, representatives of the Holy See and religious communities who run the hospitals within which the Bambin Gesù works, the directors and the medical staff of the local health facilities, representatives of foundations and non-governmental organizations that provide their support. “Globalizing solidarity is an urgent appeal that comes from the Holy Father himself – said the president of the Bambin Gesù, Mariella Enoc – The Hospital has as its missions to go and bring its knowledge and ability to care in countries where there is more need for solidarity. In these years, we were able to do as much with the help of many supporters, to whom we owe our gratitude. Our goal must be to help build forces and local realities, so that they can themselves pursue these initiatives. Globalizing solidarity, in our case, means above all train, transferring knowledge and skills. ” (Red)
