June 30, 2015 – Reggio businesses are monitoring very carefully the dramatic events that are investing Greece: the Greek economy, in fact, although not in the very first places for the Region’s exports (today they rank in 23rd place), contributes almost €90 million to Reggio’s economy. The research department of the Chamber of Commerce shows that there are about 250 companies from the province of Reggio Emilia who do business with the Greek territory, companies that in 2014 exported goods to Greece for a value of €87.4 million, a 5.9% increase compared to 2013. During the same period, Reggio bought products for €21.9 million, recording a 6.8% decline compared to 2013 (when imports amounted to €23.5 million). In the first quarter of 2015, the value of cheese exports already reached €23.8 million, a 5.1% increase compared to the same period of last year; while imports also recovered, from €7.3 million to €7.6 million (+4.3%). “All this, of course – explained the Chamber of Commerce in a note – depends on the standoff between the Greek government and the EU, which opens scenarios dotted with uncertainties and anxieties.” (Red)
