London – Italian baritone Ambrogio Maestri is without a doubt the face of the modern Falstaff, gathering consensus and stadium-like cheers each time he takes the stage around the world, This time it’s at the Royal Opera House in London, from today until 18 July. “Falstaff is a life partner – explained Maestri – a mirror in which I see reflected my human and artistic growth. He is a character that somehow is my conscience and takes me around the world, from La Scala to Colón, Covent Garden in London, the Salzburg Festival, the Metropolitan in New York, where in 2013 I celebrated the 200th performance, and the Teatro Piccolo in Busseto, Verdi’s hometown. As the years go by, I can say to myself that there’s really a lot of Sir John in me, and for this I am very happy to get back on the stage of Covent Garden in a show signed by Carsen, in which I debuted in London in 2012, and that I brought around the world, in New York, Tokyo, Milan, and Amsterdam”.
