8 July, 2015 – It’s been a long and fruitful collaboration so far, that between the Veneto Region and the Chinese Jiangsu Province. Yesterday, in Venice, the partnership took a step forward with a visit of the delegation led by Vice Governor Li Yunfeng and composed of representatives of the most important institutional and economic realities of the Chinese territory. In Palazzo Balbi, headquarters of the Regional Council of Veneto, there was the Councilor for Culture, Cristiano Corazzari: “In the past and present, Veneto and Jiangsu have been and are protagonists in their own countries – explained Corazzari in his welcome speech – if their history is illustrious, their present is not to be outdone, and both occupy leading roles in the economy and growth of their respective countries. Thanks to this affinity, the close relationship between the two appears today more solid than ever and we can harbor new, profitable developments and mutual benefits.” After stressing that the GDP of the Veneto and Jiangsu account for 10% that of their respective countries, Corazzari recalled the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 1998 which established the cooperative relations between the two regions. “These economic, cultural and institutional relations continue to gain momentum, and now, for the planetary event that is Expo Milan, we are encouraging new cooperation and exchanges between Veneto and Jiangsu and their respective businesses.” For his part, Li Yunfeng stressed the importance of the Silk Road project that China has started and will involve both European and Asian countries, including Italy and Veneto, native land of Marco Polo. Four actions have been identified by the Deputy Governor to develop cooperation: expanding trade relations (with China interested in the Venetian clothing, fashion and food industries); encouraging investment (especially for small and medium enterprises); strengthening cooperation in agriculture; and focusing on joint initiatives in the arts and culture, “because Italy and China – said Li Yunfeng – have been great civilizations of the West and the East.” (Red)
