17 July, 2015 – “I come from a musical family, my father was a flutist and my mother a pianist, both graduates. A piano was always in the house, a piano my mother used to give lessons and I was used to listening to music of any kind, though predominantly classic. I do not remember the exact moment, but there came a day when I decided to learn more about this fine piece of furniture in the living room. I started by playing short melodies, typical songs that you’re taught in primary schools. I immediately realized that it was fun to play the instrument.” Enrico Zanisi born in Rome in 1990, grew up listening to bands like Emerson Lake Palmer, Genesis and Led Zeppelin. And so the pianist embarked on a process of comprehensive studies, graduating with honors in classical piano and, again with honors, in jazz. The technical mastery of the instrument allows the musician to venture into different genres with surprising confidence and awareness. Already Top Jazz Award Winner for Best New Talent, and SIAE winner for Creativity, the artist will play tomorrow – Saturday, July 18 – at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival with his trio (composed by bassist Joe Rehmer and drummer Alessandro Paternesi) and on Monday, July 20 in a quintet together with trumpeter Kim Macari and saxophonist Riley Stone Lonergan. Zanisi performed exactly one year ago in a piano solo at the Festival Jazz of the Scottish capital, and this double return confirms the international vocation of his music. Moreover, the Roman pianist has just completed a tour that saw him star in India, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Iceland and Brazil. The continued international demand for Zanisi consacrates him is as one of the stars of new contemporary jazz. Recently, Zanisi released Right Now along with saxophonist Mattia Cigalini, for Cam Jazz. (Red)
