24 July, 2015 – The Mathematics Department of Parma is a true Italian excellence in the world. The University of Parma, for Mathematics and Informatics, ranks fourth in Europe and among the top 20 in the world of the “CWTS Leiden Ranking,” which as a criterion also looks into impactful publications, considered a significant parameter to identify quality research. The ranking is in fact built by detecting the percentage of “highly cited” scientific publications, which rank in the top 1% of the most cited in the 2010-2013 period. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Parma reached its new position thanks to the fundamental contribution of prof. Giuseppe Mingione and his collaborators on the ERC Vectorial Problems project, who authored a very large number of highly cited publications. For the University of Parma, this is an important recognition: it is the best ranking in a single area obtained by all Italian universities in all disciplines.
