Hamburg – “The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg ordered today that India and Italy refrain from exercising any form of jurisdiction over the two Marina Fusiliers, pending a final decision on the case by the Arbitration Court, which is currently being set up. In doing so, the Court recognized the full legitimacy and competence of the Arbitration Court on the matter. The measures prescribed today protect in part Italy’s rights on the Enrica Lexie case. However, we are disappointed that the Court has not decided to adopt measures on the situation of Latorre and Girone, claiming that this issue should be dealt with within the newly-formed Arbitration Court. For this reason, Italy is considering renewing its requests related to the condition of the two Fusiliers before the Arbitration Court, as soon as it is formed. We are confident that India will implement without delay the measures prescribed today,” commented from Hamburg the Agent of the Italian Government, Francesco Azzarello. (9Colonne)
