Damascus – Because of the on-going conflict in Syria and the current heat wave, the situation regarding the availability of drinking water for local people has significantly worsened. This is the complaint of UNICEF, which claims that only in the city of Aleppo 18 water supply interruptions were recorded in 2015. In some municipalities, the taps remained dry for up to 17 consecutive days. Italy intervened immediately after the outbreak of the conflict in Syria by providing a total contribution of over € 68.2 million to date, through interventions in favor of displaced people within the country and in support of the efforts of neighboring countries in the reception of refugees, in particular Jordan and Lebanon, while a smaller portion was allocated to refugees in Iraq and in Turkey.
