Brussels – “I’m really pleased that Renzi had spoken to the UN about the commitment of the Italian government for the establishment of a national specialist unit of ‘blue helmets for culture’ for the protection of cultural heritage” commented the MEP Silvia Costa, after the statement of Prime Minister Matteo Renzi at the UN. “We had asked for the same thing in the resolution proposed by me and approved in April in the European Parliament, promoted at the Universal Exhibition in Milan in July during the International Conference of Ministers of Culture, and reaffirmed in September during the meeting with Irina Bokova, UNESCO Director General, as we listened to the Culture Commission of the European Parliament, which I chair. The battle for the defense of cultural heritage in crisis situations continues. Italy and Europe are engaged on the same front.” (9Colonne)
