(October 9, 2015) In May 1978, the Italian Parliament approve the Law 180, better known as the Legge Basaglia, from Franco Basaglia, the man who closed the mental hospitals in Italy, restoring human dignity to many. The one started with Basaglia in Italy – since the 60s – was a radical reform of psychiatry. In Germany, in the 80s, there has been a more cautious reform. These two paths, their social backstory and practical consequences will be analyzed and compared in the course of a meeting scheduled for October 14 at 7pm at the Italian Institute of Culture of Monaco of Bavaria. The IIC will host a panel discussion entitled “Psichiatria in Italia e in Germania a confronto”. The event is part of the exhibition “Was geht? Kunst und Inklusion”. Michael von Cranach (director of the Kaufbeuren Municipal Hospital) and Lorenzo Toresini (Head Physician of the Psychiatric Hospital of Merano) will be protagonist of the panel. The debate will be moderate by Mariacarla Gadebusch Bondio (director of the Institute of History and Ethics of Medicine at the Technical University of Munich). The round table is organized by the IIC itself and the Department of Culture of the City of Munich and Forum Italia. (Red)
