October 30th, 2015 – Carmine Abate, Calabrian writer born in 1954, emigrated as a young man to Germany and then moved to Trentino, where he lived for over ten years. Since then, his books tell the stories of emigration and the meeting of cultures and traditions. And so, literature and emigration are the topic of a debate scheduled in Tirana for Saturday, Oct. 31 at 5pm. Abate will meet Albanian journalist Ben Blushi, at the Tirana International Literature Festival 2015 (TILF), in the Shakespeare hall of the Metropolitan theater in Tirana. The event is also an opportunity to present Abate’s latest work, “La felicità dell’attesa”, a story of courageous men and women spanning four generations and more than one century of stories on three continents. In addition to Albania, his books have been translated and appreciated in France, USA, Germany, the Netherlands, Greece, Portugal, Kosovo, Japan and are currently being published in Arabic. Abate, who won the 2012 Campiello Prize with the novel “La collina del vento”, has always been linked to Albania and its culture, being born in Carfizzi, a small town in Calabria with arbëreshë origins, which still retains its Greek-Albanian traditions.
