Nairobi – During the ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organization held yesterday in Nairobi, the closure of negotiations on trade in information technology products (ITA2) was announced. Negotiations involved 53 countries representing 90% of trade in this field. The final agreement provides for the elimination of duties on 201 products. “The covenant on the extension of the Information Technology Agreement – said the Italian Deputy Minister for Economic Development Carlo Calenda, head of Italian delegation and Vice President of the Ministerial meeting in Nairobi – is the largest multilateral tariff reduction agreement within the WTO of the past 18 years – since the end of the previous ITA agreement, which came to an end in 1996”.
