Edinburgh – Francesco Martinelli, 3rd year student of the Doctorate Course in Biopharmaceutics-Pharmacokinetics, is one of the five finalists selected in the “Pat Burnell New Investigator Award Finalist” in the field of Drug Delivery to the Lung 26 (DDL26), a conference held 9-11 December in Edinburgh (Scotland). Francesco carried out his research focusing on the concept of “Particle Engineering” for the production of inhalation powders under the coordination of professor Ruggero Bettini and professor Francesca Buttini at the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Technology. Martinelli presented his doctoral work in a section devoted to young researchers and his was chosen among 40 projects, reflecting the high level of his research carried out in these three years in the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Parma. The presentation entitled “Pharmaceutical Development of Sodium Hyaluronate Respirable Dry Powders for Targeted Drug Delivery” focused on the possibility of production of breathable particles containing hyaluronate, helpful for targeted therapy and for the treatment of diseases affecting the respiratory system such as COPD, asthma and emphysema. In addition, a collaboration with the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science at King’s College London (UK) allowed the evaluation of biocompatibility in cell lines relevant to the lungs. (9Colonne)
