Vienna – The Speaker of the House Laura Boldrini was yesterday on an official visit to Vienna to meet with Doris Bures, the president of the Austrian parliament, who endorsed the Declaration to further European integration. The other two scheduled events were a visit to the headquarters of the European Agency for Fundamental Rights, where Boldrini met with Director Michael O’Flaherty, and talks with OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier. President Bures signed the joint declaration on “More European integration: the way forward” signed on September 14 in Rome by the Presidents of the Chamber of Germany, France and Luxembourg. Boldrini then visited the historical classroom Abgeordnetenhaus, where she paid tribute to Alcide De Gasperi who, as a young parliamentarian, sat in the Habsburg Parliament, and, along with Adenauer, Schuman and Monnet, played a major role in the defeat of intolerance and the rebirth of the European dream.
