Freetown – 246 people received food parcels, basic necessities and economic support, and many children received the gift of folders, books and notebooks. All thanks to the extraordinary contribution of €25.000 donated by the “Aiuto alla Chiesa che Soffre” Foundation (ACS) to the diocese of Freetown, capital of Sierra Leone, who last September was hit by a devastating flood – right after the end of the Ebola epidemic. Following the severe natural disaster, the needs of the population increased exponentially and more than 2,500 families depended entirely on the support of the Church. “Fortunately, we can count on the support of organizations such as the ACS Foundation, which allows us to respond to the many needs of our members,” said the Archbishop of Freetown, Edward Tamba Charles, stressing that the needs of the families expand well beyond the limited resources of the local Church. Last January, the ACS had already donated to Freetown and the other dioceses of Sierra Leone over €100.000 to fight the Ebola epidemic. (9Colonne)
