Rome – 2015 may go down in the history of Tuscan wine as the year the region finally overtook Piedmont with regard to exports. In the first 9 months of 2015, Tuscan wine exports grew by 21.9% (while the national average lulled at +5.4%), surpassing €646.4 million in value. Such a positive trend, if confirmed for the last quarter of the year, would lead Tuscan wine exports to a record €923.4 million in the year. Toscana Promozione crunched the numbers and revealed that this is the 6th consecutive year of growth for Tuscan wine exports, reaching for the first time in history, the €1 billion mark. A number that today is a reality only for Veneto, well-established leader in this particular ranking. Since 2003, the Tuscan wine sector has been in constant expansion, registering only two negative results in conjunction with the economic and financial crisis of 2008-2009. Overall, however, foreign trade of Tuscan wines has grown by 102.4%. Such a strong performance increases the weight of Tuscan exports on the national total, rising from 14.8% in 2014 to 16.7% in 2015, consolidating the region’s third place after Veneto and Piedmont, with a good chance of soon reaching second place.
