(18 February 2016) Born in Naples in 1950, Erri De Luca writes fiction, theater plays, translations, and poetry. He has published over 60 works, and his books have been translated into more than 30 languages. The famous Italian writer, author of worldwide hits such as “The weight of the butterfly”, will be a special guest of the Santiago Italian Cultural Institute (Triana 843, Providencia) where he will meet the Chilean public. The appointment – wanted by the Institute in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy – is scheduled for March 18 (at 7.30pm). The Neapolitan will take part in two conferences in Chile through which he will retrace the steps of his literary career. Erri de Luca approached the world of literature and journalism at the age of 40: he published his first book in 1989. “Non ora, non qui” (1989) describes Erri de Luca’s childhood, but his career as a writer is prolific, both as a novelist and an essayist, poet and writer of theatrical pieces. In less than twenty years, from 1990 to 2009, he published about fifty works: essays, short stories, novels, three collections of poems, and four texts for theater and opera. The Italian writer will be introduced by Fabio Risa, professor of Italian language and literature at the Pontifical Catholic University of Santiago. (Gil)
