Davos – First, social media served to rally the young Egyptians in Tahrir Square to overthrow the Mubarak regime, today they serve ISIS to recruit new terrorists from the Old Continent. Social media, communication and the Middle East will be discussed for the first time in Europe at the World Communication Forum, to be held in Davos on March 8-9-10 with the participation of three communication and information experts: the Moroccan Mustapha Khalfi, from the Minister of Communications and Spokesperson of the Government; the Egyptian Sherwet Kafafy, Marketing & Communications Director of TAQA Arabia (Energy Company); and the Moroccan Philippe Borremans, Strategy Director at PR Media (Communication Agency). (Social) media is a real phenomenon in the region: from Al Jazeera’s 40 million daily viewers* to the 150,000 existing websites** where extremists preach Jihad. Because there is a cyber-war that needs to fought against the Caliphate, especially when we remember that almost 80% of its militants** have been “approached” through social media. (9Colonne)
