Cairo – The Italian Embassy in Cairo yesterday received a verbal note with which the Egyptian Foreign Ministry sent some of the investigative materials requested in recent weeks by the Italian government through diplomatic channels. The materials were immediately made available to the Italian investigative team that works in Cairo on behalf of the Public Prosecutor of Rome. “The Foreign Ministry – explains a note – noted the delivery of part of the requested material. The documents received so far include information on the hearing of witnesses by the Egyptian authorities, Giulio Regeni’s cell phone traffic and a partial synthesis of the elements that emerged from the autopsy. Other material requested by the Embassy remains to be delivered.” “It is a useful first step – comments the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – However, the Foreign Ministry believes that in the interest of ascertaining the truth, investigative cooperation should be completed expeditiously.” (9Colonne)
