(4 March 2016) The young talents of European research chose Ca ‘Foscari University in Venice for their 5th annual conference (the first to be held in Italy), which will see them engage in a debate over the role, resources and prospects of research. Today and tomorrow, Venice welcomes 240 winners of the prestigious competitive “Marie Curie” Program: the researchers selected by the European Commission for their research ideas with biennial or triennial grants that allow them to spend a research period in non-European research centers and bring home new skills and results. Ca’ Foscari itself boasts the national record of grants won between 2014 and 2015, with seven scholarships a year for a total amount of over €2 million. The projects adopt an interdisciplinary approach not only in science and technology, but also in social sciences and the humanities. The event in Italy was set up by the Alumni of Marie Curie, a group created in in 2012 that today counts nearly 7 thousand researchers, mostly under the age of 35, of which a thousand Italians. The alumni gathered at the Santa Margherita Auditorium, greeted by Dean Michele Bugliesi. Today representatives of the European Commission, Ministry of Education, UNESCO, the National Research Council and other institutions and organizations will delve into topics such as opportunities for research funding, partnerships between science and industry, the communication of research. Tomorrow, the association will hold its annual assembly. (Red)
