(22 March 2016) “For children, studying Italian can open the doors of various sectors, such as design, architecture, sculpture, singing: all study areas where the Italian language is an important and essential tool,” underlined the Consul General of Italy in Chongqing Sergio Maffettone. Maffettone spoke at the donation ceremony of school supplies in favor of the elementary school Renmin in Chongqing. The Consulate donated 500 Italian textbooks to the Chinese elementary school, which will be used in the Italian language courses. In addition to Consul Maffettone, the ceremony – held on March 16 – saw the participation of the Consulate’s press officer Alice Giusto. Chongqing has been defined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a “pilot city” for the teaching of the Italian language. The Renmin Primary School thus became the first school in China to have an established Italian courses under the initiative “Italian in schools.” This is why the Italian government has decided to donate the books to Renmin, through the Consulate General of Italy.
