(23 March 2016) Influweb is an innovative influenza monitoring system developed by the ISI Foundation Computational Epidemiology Lab of Turin, which was presented during the international workshop Iwops 3, scheduled until tomorrow in Newcastle, Australia. The workshop sees the participation of Daniela Paolotti, research leader at the ISI Foundation and project manager for the app. The app, developed for the iOS family (iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad…), allows users to send updates on their health status whenever and wherever, indicating the presence or absence of flu symptoms, thus feeding a database that finds its driving and revolutionary force in direct citizen participation. The iOS version of Influweb can be downloaded for free from the iTunes store, while the Android version has been available since 2015. Launched in 2008 as part of the European project Epiwork, Influweb represents the Italian mirror of Influenzanet, a continental network of online monitoring systems open in Belgium, Denmark, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Spain and Sweden (with Switzerland about to join). On www.influweb.it, there is the Italian map, updated in real time and available province by province, of the trends and variation of the flu. From this year, the data on Influenzanet reservoir is also available on Fluoutlook (fluoutlook.org), a flu forecasting system developed by the ISI Foundation in collaboration with Northeastern University in Boston, that covers European countries as well as the United States, Chile, Australia and New Zealand.
