Ancona – Fincantieri’s shipyard in Ancona delivered “Viking Sea”, the second in a series of six cruise ships that the Viking Ocean Cruises shipping company ordered from Fincantieri. “Viking Sea” is part of the small units segment: with a gross tonnage of about 47,800 tons and 465 cabins, it can accommodate 930 passengers on board, with a total accommodation capacity of over 1,400 people, including crew. The ship was designed by highly experienced naval architects and engineers, including an interior design team from SMC Design in London and Rottet studio in Los Angeles, who wanted to build “Viking Sea” as a modern, Scandinavian-inspired ship with a design featuring sophisticated and functional elegance. The first of the series, the “Viking Star” was produced and delivered in the spring of 2015 by the shipyard in Marghera, while “Viking Sky”, just launched at Ancona shipyard, will become operational in February 2017. Since 1990, Fincantieri has built 71 cruise ships (48 since 2002), while another 13 units are under construction or about to be built by the group. (9Colonne)
