(March 30, 2016) Last two days in Berlin to discover an actress with a thousand faces and endless roles: Monica Vitti. It closes its doors tomorrow, Thursday, March 31, the retrospective – “Ikone, Diva … Komödiantin” – dedicated to one of the greatest actresses of Italian cinema. Maria Luisa Ceciarelli, aka Monica Vitti, is now 84 years: the Roman actress has not appeared on the scene since several years due to an illness. Monica Vitti played – with style and talent – brilliant and dramatic roles. Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in ’95, the muse of Michelangelo Antonioni and “Girl with a Gun” by Mario Monicelli was a “mattatrice” of Italian comedy, able to share the big screen with the likes of Alberto Sordi, Ugo Tognazzi, Vittorio Gassman and Nino Manfredi. Silent, ironic, detached, ethereal, sexy: the “diva of the olden times” is dedicated to the exhibition organized in the German capital by Kino Arsenal-Institute for Film and Video Art and the Italian Institute of Culture in Berlin. The retrospective has put together films that go from the 60s to 70s, providing a comprehensive overview of the varied career of the actress. Fun, lively, joyful. And then serious and silent. The image of Monica Vitti is linked to that of famous comedies that have left a mark in the history of our cinema. (PO / red)
