(April 1 2016) The city of Sassi is “closer” to that of Dunhuang, a name that means “shining beacon”: one of the most famous historical and cultural cities of China Jiuquan Prefecture, formerly called “Sandbar”. Matera will, in fact, host the cultural cooperation Expo held in Dunhuang from 19 to 22 September to tell his story and his path to victory as European Capital of Culture in 2019. This issue was discussed in the meeting which it was held yesterday in Matera between Lucan institutions and representatives of the Chinese government represented by the cultural counselor of the Embassy of China, Zhang Jianda. The latter, accompanied by Lucan Parliamentary Cosimo latronico (Cor), briefed the Mayor of Matera Raffaello De Ruggieri on the spirit that motivated the request for participation of the city in the exhibition to be held in China. The two cities, which are joined by the recognition of Unesco Heritage, – it reads in a statement of the press office of the City of Matera – are willing to develop a real twinning of culture and mutual excellence.
