(17 May 2016) As of today, the International Day against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, the humanitarian organization Soleterre – Peace Strategies promotes the Ugandan campaign to inform and raise awareness of the # Iwant2Bfree LGTBI persons (acronym for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex) and of defenders of their human rights, organizations and individuals who struggle against injustice and for the respect of human rights. The campaign is part of the project: “On the side of human rights defenders in Uganda” organised by Soleterre and funded by the Italian Cooperation for Development, active for more than a year in the Ugandan State. Starring in the # Iwant2Bfree are gay, lesbian and transgender Ugandans who have conveyed their message by posing for some photographic portraits, covering their faces to protect their identity. The campaign shows the desire to live a life free from discrimination: “# Iwant2Bfree not to hide myself” (I want to be free from hiding), “# Iwant2Bfree to be accepted by my family” (I want to be free to be accepted by my family) or “# Iwant2Bfree enjoy my private life” (I want to be free to enjoy my private life) are some of the messages that will be conveyed mainly through social networks. The campaign can be followed online at www.hrduganda.org site a web platform in the Italian language created by Soleterre. (Red)
