(18 May 2016) Women, cooperation, and the future. “The Aurora in Syria. Training, mediation and reconciliation” is the title of the seminar held on Friday, May 20, at 10 am in Weavers hall of the Palazzo of the Regional Council of Friuli Venezia Giulia, in Trieste. A meeting to explain her work with the project “The Aurora in Syria”, initiated by the Friuli Region in collaboration with @uxilia Onlus, the University of Trieste and Maram Foundation Studies. An initiative that is implementing, on the Turkish-Syrian border, a major assistance operation in favor of refugees, victims of the war going on in Syria under Bashar al-Assad. In particular, “The Aurora in Syria” – communicated by Friulia Venezia Giulia- has sought to improve the status of women, providing the necessary tools to address the severe trauma caused by the conflict especially to children. In detail, the training, which took place at Al Bayti orphanage of Reyhanli, covered a range of courses dedicated to female micro-businesses, specialization in tailoring and knitting, and overcoming Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Syndrome (PTSD). Significant results were achieved by the project which comes to an end in July: the employment of refugees in the area as instructors for the courses, the independent production of knitwear products, tailoring therefore activating small income generating businesses, the creation of new women’s community centers in Syria, improving social health and educational skills of the staff in the psychological rehabilitation of children and especially the consequent improvement of the conditions of the orphanage children at Al Bayti, project headquarters and the Al Nour centre run by Maram Foundation.
