Cairo – As part of the STS-Med project – which foresees 14 institutions, local companies, universities and research bodies, including ENEA – four small concentrated multi-generative solar plants were inaugurated in Italy, Egypt, Cyprus and Jordan. The main objective of STS-Med, funded with € 5 million from the European International Cooperation Programme ENPI CBC MED is to spread innovative technologies and sensitize local communities on the potential of concentrating solar power to meet the energy requirements. The small plants – a novelty seeing that the concentration of solar power systems are mainly large in measure (from MW and up) – generate a total of 500 thermal kW, providing electricity, hot water and air conditioning to public buildings with 20,000 consumers in the Mediterranean.
