(5 July 2016) The New York Times journalist, Mark Mazzetti is the winner of the 2016 Urbino Press Award. The Italian prize is awarded annually to a US reporter who has stood out for the work in informing the general public during the previous year. The award was presented on July 2 during a ceremony in the throne room of the Palazzo Ducale in Urbino in the presence of the President of the Marche Region Luca Ceriscioli and the mayor of Urbino Maurizio Gambini. The award is made possible through the support of the Marche Region, the City of Urbino, the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Washington, the Chamber of Commerce of Pesaro and Urbino and the fashion designer Piero Guidi. “This event – stressed Ceriscioli – is a bridge between the Marche and the United States and is part of one of the most important activities between the two countries. The fact that the award is held in the beautiful city of Urbino, represents a tool for the globalisation that develops the contacts from the point of view economics, tourism and promotional activity. The recent meeting I had in Washington in recent months has been very significant. We now need to develop and strengthen relationships in order to create international opportunities that the region wants to implement. ” The Urbino Press Award counts among its previous winners Diane Rehm, Michael Weisskopf, Martha Raddatz, Thomas Friedman, David Ignatius, Helene Cooper, Sebastian Rotella, Wolf Blitzer and Maria Bartiromo.
