(13 July 2016) Every year the lives of hundreds of millions of people around the world is devastated by armed conflicts, natural disasters, health epidemics. It is in these places often forgotten from the spotlight, where it is most urgently required assistance and protection for the civilian population exhausted by poverty and violence, and where the ONG belonging to “Agire” (ActionAid, AMREF, CESVI, COOPI, GVC, Oxfam, SOS Children’s Villages, Terre des Hommes and Vis), intervene to bring relief and to ensure dignity for those living on their skin the most difficult humanitarian crisis taking place around the globe. As it is happening in South Sudan, Ethiopia and the countries affected by the migrants’ emergency, including Greece. Just a few days before the independence anniversary, South Sudan is plunged back into open war between armed factions to gain power. Three hundred dead and thousands of people fleeing from armed clashes, heavy artillery and armored vehicles that occupy the streets of the capital Juba. The airport and all the borders are closed. The NGOs of “Agire” (Act) present in the country (ActionAid, AMREF, Oxfam, Sos Children’s Villages and VIS), have undertaken tight security measures on its staff, hoping to be able to keep performing the humanitarian activities. Ethiopia is perhaps the country in which the El Niño effects are stronger. Here you will experience the most severe drought in 50 years. 12 million people are at risk every day to die, because hungry, with no more water, nor food, or because they suffer from diseases transmitted through the little remaining water, often contaminated. Nearly 5.5 million children depend on emergency food aid, and the only hope now is that the crops planned for November could bring a minimum level of food safety. ActionAid, AMREF, COOPI, Oxfam, Sos Children’s villages and VIS, are working every day alongside the most vulnerable population. (Red)
