(August 2, 2016) “My most beautiful work” is how Giuseppe Verdi used to describe the Giuseppe Verdi Rest Home he founded in Milan for those “dear comrades of a lifetime”: there composers, musicians, singers, finding themselves in old age, alone and sick, would have been able to find support and companionship. Since October 10, 1902 – when the first guests entered – until today, the Giuseppe Verdi Rest Home welcomed more than a thousand people, who in life were devoted to the art of music. Not an asylum, but a place to rest after a life dedicated to music. The enthusiasm and passion that Verdi put in this House will be the focus of a conference at the Institute of Italian Culture in Tokyo. “Giuseppe Verdi the man: 1800 Italian genius” is the title of the conference that Maestro Ferdinando Dani will held on August 24 at 18.30: through the projection of images of the exterior and interior of the rest home, the evening will illustrate the multiple human aspects of the great composer’s life: the fervent patriot, the dynamic entrepreneur, the elegant farmer and sensitive philanthropist.
