(2 agosto 2016) How did the Milky Way formed and evolved? The yet unsolved answer could come from a research conducted by an international team of Japanese, South African and Italian astronomers, among whom Giuseppe Bono, Inaf associate from University of Rome Tor Vergata, shows that around the center of the Milky Way there is a vast and surprisingly lacking of young stars region. “Our results show how in the course of the last few hundred million years, in this vast region of the galaxy, there has been no significant activity of star formation – says Giuseppe Bono – The kinematics and chemical composition of the new Cepheid could enable us to shed light on the formation and evolution of the Milky Way”.
